Meet’n’Greet at CCIS, CFN, CIWA, CBFY in November ‘22
Calling all newcomer immigrant and refugee youth for an upcoming event!
Do you have an interest in storytelling through music, movement, or visual art and animation? Are you interested in computer programming? Are you interested in applying your skills toward social justice-oriented work?
If so, we would love to hear from you!
If you are between 14 and 25 years old and have accessed programs or services from Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth (CBFY), Calgary Catholic Immigration Society (CCIS), Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association (CIWA) or Center for Newcomers(CFN) in the past twelve months, then we would love to have you join us for a meet and greet to learn more about the project.
We will get to know each other, and engage together in storytelling through music, movement, play, computer programming, artwork and animation. We will also talk about upcoming design workshops, where we will explore these topics further, and connect this work to social justice and anti-racism. We will invite you to join us for these workshops, but there is no requirement for you to continue your participation.
Attend any one of these 2.5 hour sessions taking place:

Our collaborative design workshops are coming up in 2023!
Following up from events in November 2022, we have a series of collaborative workshops scheduled for 2023. We will continue our discussions through artwork, games, technological innovation, podcasts, urban farming, and in many other ways, and will share and discuss how race and racism influence resettlement experiences. Together, we will develop anti-racist social justice projects to dismantle oppressive structures in resettlement experiences.
You will have the opportunity to learn computer programming, illustration, animation, game design and other skills such as leadership, teamwork, critical thinking, problem-solving, and professional communication.
Workshops will be held at the University of Calgary, where you will work with leading researchers along with facilitators and technical experts. Interpreters will be provided for those who identify a need. All discussions are confidential and will be anonymised.
In recognition of your time, you will be provided honorariums, transit passes, and food and drink for all workshops.
If you are between the ages of 14-25 years and you have been part of CBFY, CCIS, CFN and CIWA then you can join these workshops.
